| >> Equality Explained The ETTA actively promotes participation within our four key target groups, namely: women and girls, people with disabilities, members of ethnic minority groups and people from socially excluded communities. Whilst we can all celebrate the achievements of the past years we all need to acknowledge that there is work still to do. In February 2001 the ETTA signed up to the Racial Equality Charter during the English Open at Chatham pledging to commit the organisation to challenge and remove racial discrimination within in our sport. During the same year the Premier Club Ability Programme was launched which has seen major development in disabled table tennis. In March 2003 the ETTA achieved the Preliminary level of the Racial Equality Charter for Sports. in 2006 the ETTA achieved Equality Standards at Preliminary level and is now progressing towards the Intermediate Level. Some of the key achievements since 2003 have included: - In March 2005 at the Volunteer Conference held at Lilleshall the theme for Day 2 of the conference was 'Opportunities for Women and Girls' and included a keynote speech by Dorte Kronsell the Danish Table Tennis General Secretary and Chair of the ITTF Women's Development Committee.
- BTTAD held their second Junior National Championships in Grimsby.
- Pilot schemes targeting women were launched in Bradford and Burton upon Trent.
- More clubs have been recruited to the Premier Club Ability programme
- 2 new tutors have been recruited to deliver the disability awareness training course - both are current members of the GB national disabled squad.
- Projects targeting ethnic minority groups in Bristol and Birmingham are being started during 2006.
If anyone has any examples of any projects involving the key target groups please send the details/information to the National Equality Officer. None of this could be achieved without the help and support of all the ETTA staff team and the huge amount of work put in by our volunteers!! |
