Local community sports facility the Greenbank Sports Academy is to host the Liverpool 08 International Disabled Open Table Tennis Championships from 13 - 16 March 2008.
Greenbank’s Sports Development Officer and tournament Director Mark Palmer says, “We expect 4 days of first class competition. Players are all trying to gain points to contribute to the IPTTC (International Paralympic Table Tennis Committee) world ranking list and seeding for the Paralympic games in Beijing, China in September”. Over 180 Players will be competing from 24 different countries, including Canada, Germany, Denmark, Norway, Iceland, Italy and Jordan. Tony Edge, Lynne Riding, Claire Robertson and Scott Robertson, locally recognised names within the sport, will be competing for Great Britain. This is the first time that the tournament includes wheelchair and ambulant disabled players.
