9th September By Jacquie Lovell, Cippenham TTC
Having found it increasingly difficult to obtain qualified umpires for events held at Cippenham, the club decided to try and reverse this trend by promoting a course with the specific aim of increasing the number of qualified County Umpires. The number of applicants for the course exceeded all expectations and the course was oversubscribed. Candidates were invited to Cippenham on 29th June where the ETTA’s Mick Strode ran a training session and candidates sat the written test paper. Candidates were then invited back and completed their final assessments (one day) over the weekend of the first Cippenham Grand Prix on 30th and 31st August. As a result of this incentive, Cippenham Table Tennis Club boosted the number of qualified County Umpires by fourteen. Many of these candidates now want to add to their skills by becoming Tournament Referees. Cippenham Table Tennis Club hopes to be able to facilitate this process towards the end of the season. The ETTA and Cippenham would like to congratulate the following candidates: David Akehurst Paul Baker Sue Hayes David Hayes Alex Lovell Jacquie Lovell Denise Rolfe Steve Smith Derek Brooke-Wavell Stuart Chambers Ian Ford Martin Jezicek Rory Scott Allan White Two further candidates hope to complete their assessments during the season. If you are thinking about running your own course and would like some help and advice, Jacquie Lovell from Cippenham is more than happy to answer questions.
